No comments. A ten-year-old girl, Rei Otohara, is taken to the hospital because she fainted at school. There she experiences strange occurrences including seeing people that are not there. When she returns home to her two brothers after being discharged, Rei herself starts seeing things that are not there. Her younger brother Yuki warns her to never go into the basement of their house for fear of what might be down there. One night when her parents are gone and Rei's older brother Hirokoji has left for a date with his girlfriend Gin, the family's youngest child Riki starts crying uncontrollably in his bed until he falls asleep from exhaustion. Rei becomes curious and ventures into the basement to find him sleeping on the floor. Rei then goes to her room where she claims that Riki told her that "A monster is in your father's closet." When Rei tells Hirokoji what Riki had said, he immediately checks the closet only to find it empty. The next morning, Rei wakes up screaming from nightmares of being poked by something in the dark area of the basement where Riki was found. Hirokoji, after hearing about this from his girlfriend Gin, tells his wife that he took Riki into their room at night to keep him safe before noticing that compared to their other children, Riki has developed an early development spurt. But Rei's first-grade teacher Kumi, who has the same daughter as Rei, notices that Rei is increasingly behaving differently. She is drawing more animal-themed pictures on the wall of her classroom and she has started becoming more withdrawn since she was taken to the hospital. Kumi takes Rei into her office to talk about some changes that are happening within her. Then suddenly, Yuki enters the room with a broken vending machine. He says he went to use it for candy but couldn't get any of it out because of a small hole in one of its glass containers. Rei claims not to know anything about it and is sent home. One night, after Rei's family has gone to sleep, she ventures down to the basement where she discovers a small hole in the ground where one of her brothers had fallen into and broke his arm. She then looks through her father's closet and manages to find a book that has Riki's name written on it. It is revealed that the children's mother gave birth to twins, Yuki and Riki, but accidentally gave away the younger twin. When Rei tells Hirokoji what she read about their missing brother, he tells her that if their parents knew this would cause them too much stress so they buried the past.
